Introduction: The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Robotics Association (OECS RA) and the St Kitts and Nevis Robotics Association (SKNRA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in the British Virgin Islands, are delighted to unveil the RoboMindset programme. This innovative summer initiative is crafted to imbue Caribbean youth with the essential skills for the 4th Industrial Revolution, focusing on building and programming robots to address community challenges.
This pioneering programme welcomes participation from several key educational institutions across the British Virgin Islands, including but not limited to H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, Claudia Creque Educational Centre – Anegada, Bregado Flax Educational Centre – Virgin Gorda, Elmore Stoutt High School – Tortola, and The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies – Tortola.
Designed to foster innovative and adaptive thinking through hands-on STEAM education, each participating school is encouraged to assemble a team comprising at least ten students. Spanning one week, the RoboMindset programme will engage students in training, building, programming, and testing robots, culminating in a public exhibition. Here, teams will showcase their creations, inspired by this year’s theme, “Clean Tech for Clean Water: Using Robotics to Ensure Safe and Sustainable Access to Water and Sanitation.”.
The mission of the RoboMindset: Nurturing Innovative and Adaptive Thinking through Robotics summer training programme is to empower youth with the skills and knowledge needed to build and program robots that can help solve problems in their communities. We believe that by providing access to innovative technology and education, we can inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers in the British Virgin Island and the Eastern Caribbean Region.
Our vision is to create a world where the British Virgin Islands youths are at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement, using their skills and knowledge to create a better future for themselves and their communities.
