The St Kitts and Nevis Robotics Association (SKNRA) recently concluded its annual Robomindset Summer Camp under the theme: “Nurturing Innovative and Adaptive Thinking through Robotics.” This year’s camp, sponsored by the Republic Bank in St Kitts, was a resounding success, exposing over 60 participants to the exciting worlds of robotics and coding.
The 2024 camp ran for three weeks, with sessions held simultaneously in both St Kitts and Nevis. This dual-location approach allowed for greater accessibility and participation, reflecting SKNRA’s commitment to inclusivity and community outreach. The camp boasted over 21 instructors and assistant instructors, the highest number since the camp’s inception in 2023. This impressive instructor-to-student ratio ensured personalized attention and a rich learning experience for all participants.
A special thanks is extended to Mrs. Michelle-Ann Neil for her exceptional work as Camp Manager. Her dedication and organizational skills were pivotal to the camp’s smooth operation and success. Mrs. Neil’s hard work and commitment were evident in every aspect of the camp, from the meticulous planning to the engaging daily activities.
What set this camp apart was the presence of trainers who will be representing St Kitts and Nevis at the FIRST Global Robotics Olympics in Athens, Greece, this year. Their expertise and experience provided invaluable insights to the participants, adding an extra layer of excitement and prestige to the camp.
The Robomindset Summer Camp attracted participants from all over the Caribbean and even the United States, making it a truly international event. This diverse mix of attendees enriched the learning environment, fostering cross-cultural exchanges and broadening the participants’ perspectives.
The camp concluded with an exceptional closing ceremony, where awards were presented to top performers and all participants were recognized for their efforts. This celebration of achievement highlighted the skills and knowledge gained over the three weeks and underscored the importance of recognizing and encouraging young talent.
Dr. Ricardo Neil, Founder and Chairman of SKNRA, reiterated the association’s commitment to national development through initiatives like the Robomindset Summer Camp. He emphasized the importance of nurturing innovative and adaptive thinking in today’s youth, preparing them to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and creativity.
As we celebrate the success of this year’s camp, we look forward to continuing our mission of promoting STEM education and fostering a love for robotics among the youth. The support from sponsors like Republic Bank and the dedication of our instructors and volunteers are crucial to our ongoing efforts. Together, we are building a brighter future for the next generation of innovators.
